Privacy Policy

We take your privacy seriously. Here's how we handle your info.

Look, we get it - nobody actually enjoys reading privacy policies. But since you're trusting us with your ride (and maybe your personal info), we figured you'd wanna know what we do with it. We've tried to keep this straightforward, no legal mumbo-jumbo where possible.

When you bring your car in or book online, we're gonna need some basics to do our job right:

  • Contact stuff - Your name, phone number, email, and address. Pretty standard.
  • Vehicle details - Make, model, year, VIN, mileage. Can't work on your car if we don't know what it is!
  • Service history - What we've done before, what issues you've had. Helps us track patterns and keep your ride in top shape.
  • Payment info - Credit card details when you pay, though we don't actually store the full numbers ourselves (our payment processor handles that securely).
  • Website usage - Cookies and analytics to see how folks use our site. Nothing creepy, just helps us make it better.

We're not in the business of selling data - we're in the business of fixing cars. Here's what we actually do with your info:

  • Service your vehicle - Obviously. Can't diagnose that check engine light without knowing it's your car.
  • Communicate with you - Appointment reminders, service updates, "hey your car's ready" calls.
  • Process payments - Gotta get paid somehow, right?
  • Improve our services - Understanding what services folks need helps us stock the right parts and train our techs better.
  • Send occasional updates - Maybe a reminder when you're due for maintenance or info about new services. You can opt out anytime.
  • Legal compliance - Sometimes we gotta keep records for warranty claims, emissions testing, or other regulatory stuff.

We're pretty protective of your data, but there's a few situations where we might share it:

  • Parts suppliers - Sometimes we need to order specific parts for your vehicle and they'll need your VIN or vehicle specs.
  • Payment processors - They handle the credit card transactions securely (we use industry-standard encrypted systems).
  • Warranty companies - If you're making a warranty claim, they'll need service records and vehicle info.
  • Legal requirements - If the law says we gotta hand something over (like a court order), we don't have much choice.
  • Business transfers - If we ever sold the shop (not planning on it!), customer records would be part of that deal.

We do NOT sell your info to marketers, data brokers, or random third parties. That's just not our style.

Security's important to us. Here's what we do to keep your info safe:

  • Encrypted connections - Our website uses SSL encryption (that little padlock in your browser).
  • Secure storage - Digital records are kept on password-protected systems with limited access.
  • Paper records - Yeah, we still have some. They're kept in locked cabinets in our office.
  • Staff training - Our team knows not to leave customer info lying around or share it carelessly.
  • Regular updates - We keep our systems updated to protect against new security threats.

That said, no system's perfect. We do our best, but can't guarantee 100% security. If there's ever a breach, we'll let you know ASAP.

We keep your service records and contact info as long as you're an active customer. Even if you haven't been in for a while, we'll hang onto it in case you come back.

After about 7 years of no contact, we'll typically purge old records (unless there's a legal reason to keep 'em longer, like warranty documentation).

If you want us to delete your info sooner, just ask. We'll take care of it, though we might need to keep some records for tax or legal purposes.

Our website uses cookies - those little data files that help websites remember stuff. Here's what we use 'em for:

  • Essential cookies - Keep you logged into the booking system, remember your preferences, that kinda thing.
  • Analytics cookies - Help us see which pages people visit, how long they stay, where they click. We use this to improve the site.
  • Marketing cookies - Track if you came from an ad, so we know what's working and what's not.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings if you want, though it might make some features not work as well.

Under Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA and BC's privacy legislation), you've got some rights:

  • Access - You can ask to see what info we have about you.
  • Correction - If something's wrong, let us know and we'll fix it.
  • Deletion - You can request we delete your data (with some exceptions for legal requirements).
  • Opt-out - Don't want marketing emails? Just unsubscribe or tell us.
  • Complaints - If you think we've mishandled your data, you can file a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

To exercise any of these rights, just give us a shout at service@embergaleverse.info or call (604) 555-8742.

Sometimes our website might link to other sites - maybe a parts manufacturer's warranty info or a payment processor's terms.

Once you click those links, you're on their turf and their privacy policies apply. We can't control what they do, so make sure you're comfortable with their practices before sharing any info.

Our services aren't aimed at kids under 13, and we don't knowingly collect info from them. If you're a parent and think your kid's given us their info, let us know and we'll delete it.

For teens under 19, we'll usually want to talk to a parent or guardian before doing any major work on a vehicle registered in their name.

We might update this policy from time to time - maybe because laws change, or we start offering new services, or we just realize we can do better.

When we make changes, we'll update the "last updated" date at the bottom. For major changes, we'll try to let you know via email or a notice on our site.

It's worth checking back occasionally to see if anything's changed.
